Type 1 Gynecomastia - Puffy Nipples

Definition

Breast tissue - located primarily beneath nipple/areola

Nipple position - at or above pectoralis

Chest fold shape - tight skin, straight chest fold with no rounding

Most common demographic: 15 - 25, teenagers and body builders

Type 1 Gynecomastia is seen most frequently in teenagers, young men who are thin, and body builders. Teenagers are often the most severely effected. Emotional issues go far beyond other imperfections such as obesity, pimples, bad hair, etc. It brings the whole question of masculinity into the mindset. Body builders are a unique subset. They typically have greater self-esteem with heightened frustration with a problem that is “self inflicted” and ruins the results they are trying to achieve.

Surgery for Type 1 is generally performed under local anesthesia and results are predictably excellent because of the patient’s tight skin and lean body type. Incisions are limited to the areola which fade away quickly and are not noticeable.
